Our long established Swim Team offers swimmers of all levels the chance to compete and make new friends. More advanced team members encourage the newest swimmers, and confidence soars as each child gauges his improvement throughout the summer. The A team meets are on Saturday mornings while the B meets are held Wednesday evenings. And ask any team member what the highlight of his summer was, and you'll hear it was the team's awards banquet when she received her swimming trophy.

Swim team: This is a competitive program for all swimmers ages 5-18 who the head coach has evaluated for swimming proficiency. Swimmers are eligible to participate in two swim leagues: (1) Potomac Area Swim League (PASL) has “B” meets on Wednesday nights and (2) Montgomery County Swim League (MCSL) has “A” meets on Saturday mornings.

PASL/B meets: These meets are designed to develop competitive swimming skills and provide a fun, supportive team environment. Any team member can swim in B meets.

MCSL/A meets: For these meets, the coach decides on a week-to-week basis who will swim. This determination is made based on a swimmer’s best times, stroke technique, and many other factors.

Important Dates

Swim Team Registration and practices: Swim, Minnows and Dive Team Registration will be held at the pool or you may send it in. We will have new swim suits this season, so please order as early as possible to receive suits in time for the first meet. Register (i.e., fill out the forms and pay) by May 31st and receive an early bird discount. We will also have a registration on Memorial Day, May 26, 2005, from 1-4 p.m. Practices begin Tuesday, May 27th. There will be suits and clothing for the kids to try on at the Memorial Day registration. Swim and/or Dive Team registration forms should be sent to Janet Whitmore. Practices begin Tuesday, May ___th.

Team Bathing Suit and Clothing on Sale: We'll have Porpoises team logo clothing and swim suit samples available at the Memorial Day registration and will accept orders through Friday, June __. Parent volunteer Denise Farrah ((301) 365-7452) is coordinating clothing sales.

Evaluation for Minnows: For the 8 and unders who were not on the swim team last season, the coaches will evaluate their swimming abilities June __ and __ to determine whether they should be in Minnows or on the swim team, or would be better served by private or group swim lessons.

Time trials: Saturday, June __, 2008. Warm-ups are 8:30 a.m. sharp! Swim team members unable to swim this day should swim the following Wednesday B meet to establish times for A meet consideration.
