The Minnows program is the first step for our young swimmers and young children interested in the swim team. The Program is for children ages 8 and under who are able to put their head in the water for a minimum of 3 seconds. Our program runs for 30 minutes, 5 days a week, from 4:15 pm to 4:45 pm while public school is in session, and once summer break is on, from 4:00 pm to 4:30 pm. You are welcome to come as many times per week as you like, although most Minnows tend to come often because we have so much fun! We spend 20 minutes working on basic skills and the fundamentals of freestyle and backstroke. The last 10 minutes are spent playing games with the entire group, including the instructors!
We begin the year together in the shallow end before splitting into two different groups after a few weeks:
Shallow End Minnows work on basic skills, freestyle and backstroke until they are comfortable in the deep end and show lateral movement in their strokes.
Deep End Minnows work on basic skills, freestyle, backstroke and completing full laps of each stroke. The coaches assist in the water at all times. We encourage our deep end minnows to participate in the team's B meets, held Wednesday evenings.
